About MRI

What is an MRI?

20-45 min
Typical scan time

Magnets & radio waves

Read by board-certified radiologists.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnet and radio waves, not radiation, to create highly detailed pictures of the soft tissues inside your body. Because it reads how water molecules in your tissue respond to the magnetic field, MRI shows the brain, spinal cord, muscles, ligaments, organs and blood vessels with a level of contrast no other scan can match.

Doctors order an MRI when they need to see detail that an X-ray, CT or ultrasound can't resolve, persistent back or joint pain, neurological symptoms, suspected tumors, sports injuries, or follow-up on a known condition. At our Glendale center every exam runs on a 3 Tesla, AI-enabled GE Hero system, so you get sharper images in less time on the table.

AI-Enabled GE Hero MRI

Deep-learning reconstruction builds a cleaner image from less data, smarter noise handling and faster scans.

Superior soft-tissue contrast

Brain, cord, cartilage and ligaments separate clearly, so subtle changes stand out on the first read.

Fewer repeat scans

Higher first-pass image quality means fewer callbacks, less waiting and faster answers for you.

What We Look For

What an MRI can detect.

Brain tumors and lesions

Breast cancer in dense tissue
Heart muscle and blood-flow abnormalities
Tumors and masses
Spinal cord conditions

Findings are never left to a machine alone, every study is interpreted by a board-certified radiologist and sent to your physician within 24-48 hours.

FAQs

Questions about MRI.

Tesla (T) measures magnetic field strength. A 3 Tesla MRI has double the field strength of a standard 1.5T scanner, which means a stronger signal, sharper images and better detection of very small findings, often in a shorter scan time.
MRI uses a strong magnet and radio waves, there is no ionizing radiation at all. It is one of the safest imaging exams available and can be repeated as often as your doctor recommends.
Most insurance-covered MRI exams require a physician referral. If you don't have a referring provider, our Glendale team can help you connect with one before scheduling.
Yes, most major insurance plans and Medicare cover medically necessary MRI exams. We verify your benefits before the appointment and tell you exactly what to expect out of pocket.
Most MRI exams take 20-45 minutes depending on the body area and whether contrast is used. Our AI-enabled 3T system shortens many scans compared with older 1.5T scanners.
Tell us in advance. We offer music, headphones, open communication with your technologist and comfort measures throughout. Our safety screening reviews any implants or metal before your scan to make sure MRI is safe for you.
