What to bring

Four things cover almost every appointment.

Photo ID

A driver's license, passport or any government-issued photo ID.

Insurance card

Bring the card you want us to bill, plus any secondary coverage.

Physician's order or referral

If you have one. Many preventive scans do not need a referral.

A list of current medications

Include dosages, and note any allergies to contrast or iodine.

If you have had imaging elsewhere, bringing prior images or reports on a disc helps our radiologist compare.

Preparation

How to prepare for your scan

Find your exam below. Instructions differ by modality.

No food restrictions for most MRI scans. Leave jewelry, watches and hairpins at home. Tell us in advance about any implant, pacemaker, stent, metal fragment or aneurysm clip. Wear comfortable clothing without metal zips or underwire if possible.
You may be asked about kidney function and allergies. Follow any fasting instruction given at booking.
Most CT scans need no preparation. If your scan uses contrast, you may be asked not to eat for a few hours beforehand, our team will tell you when you book.
No fasting, no contrast, no preparation. The scan takes under 10 minutes.
Abdominal ultrasound usually requires no food or drink for 6-8 hours. Pelvic ultrasound usually requires a full bladder, drink 32oz of water an hour before and do not empty your bladder. Thyroid and breast ultrasound need no preparation.
Do not use deodorant, powder, lotion or perfume on the day of your exam, as these can appear on the images. Bring prior mammogram images if you have them.
No preparation. You may be asked to remove jewelry or change into a gown depending on the body part.

Not sure which applies to you? Call (818) 679-2867 and our team will confirm.

Safety

Important safety information

Tell us about these three things as early as possible.

If you may be pregnant

Tell us before your exam. We will discuss whether the scan should be rescheduled or a different modality used.

Pacemakers, defibrillators, cochlear implants, aneurysm clips, neurostimulators, insulin pumps and metal fragments all require safety screening before MRI. Tell us as early as possible.

Claustrophobia or anxiety

Tell us when you book. We offer headphones, music, open communication throughout the scan and breaks between sequences.

FAQs

Questions we hear before a visit

Arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time. That gives you time to check in, complete a short safety questionnaire and change if your exam requires a gown.
Comfortable clothing without metal zips, snaps or underwire is best, especially for MRI. If your clothing has metal near the area being scanned, we will ask you to change into a gown.
Yes. A friend or family member is welcome to come with you and wait in our Glendale reception area. In some cases they may be able to stay in the room with you, ask your technologist.
Most scans need no fasting. Abdominal ultrasound and some contrast studies do. If fasting is required, our team tells you exactly how long when you book.
Tell us when you book. We offer headphones, music, constant two-way communication and breaks between sequences. Many patients find the scan easier than expected once they know what to expect.
Call (818) 679-2867 as early as you can and we will find another time. There is no penalty for rescheduling with reasonable notice.
