The Basics

What is a 3 Tesla MRI?

Tesla (T) is the unit that measures the strength of an MRI magnet. A 3 Tesla scanner produces roughly twice the signal of a standard 1.5T system, and more signal means finer detail in small structures, tiny lesions, thin cartilage, delicate nerve roots and small vessels.

More signal also buys speed: many sequences can be completed faster at 3T without losing image quality, so you spend less time in the scanner. Not every imaging center in Glendale offers true 3T, ours does, paired with AI-enhanced GE Hero reconstruction.

What We Look For

What a 3T MRI can detect.

Small brain lesions
Early multiple sclerosis plaques
Subtle cartilage and ligament tears
Small tumors and masses
Spinal nerve compression
Dense breast tissue findings
Cardiac structural detail
Vascular abnormalities

Every scan is read by board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologists, with the report sent to your physician within 24-48 hours.

WHY LUCENT

Why choose Lucent for your 3T scan.

True 3.0T field strength

FAQs

Questions about 3 Tesla MRI.

Tesla measures magnet strength. A 3 Tesla magnet is twice as strong as a standard 1.5T, producing roughly double the signal. That means finer detail in small structures, and often a shorter time in the scanner.
Yes. MRI uses a magnetic field and radio waves, no ionizing radiation at all. Before your scan we complete a full safety screening for implants, devices and metal.
3T is excellent for brain, spine, joint, breast and vascular imaging where fine detail matters. For a small number of exams, or for some implants, 1.5T may be preferred, our radiologists choose the right protocol for you.
Most insurance-covered MRI exams require a physician referral. If you don't have a referring provider, our Glendale team can help you connect with one before scheduling.
Yes, most major plans and Medicare cover medically necessary MRI. We verify your benefits in advance and tell you exactly what to expect out of pocket.
Most 3T exams take 20-40 minutes. AI-enhanced reconstruction on our GE Hero system shortens many sequences compared with older 1.5T scanners.
