The Basics

What is Sonocine?

Sonocine automated whole-breast ultrasound uses a motorized transducer that travels across the breast in a systematic, overlapping path. Instead of a handheld sweep over one area, it captures a complete image set of the entire breast, thousands of frames a radiologist reviews like a film.

It is used in addition to, not instead of, a mammogram. Mammography remains the foundation of breast screening; automated ultrasound adds a second look that is not limited by tissue density, with no radiation and no compression.

FAQs

Questions about Sonocine.

Sonocine is an automated whole-breast ultrasound. A motorized transducer scans the entire breast in a systematic path, producing a complete image set that a radiologist reviews frame by frame, no radiation and no compression.
No. Sonocine is a supplement to mammography, not a replacement. Mammography remains the primary screening tool; automated ultrasound adds information that dense tissue can hide.
Women notified of dense breast tissue, those with a strong family history, a prior biopsy or high-risk classification, or anyone whose physician recommends supplemental screening.
Coverage for supplemental breast ultrasound varies by plan. Our Glendale team verifies your benefits in advance and gives you a clear self-pay price if your plan does not cover it.
No compression is used. You lie down while warm gel and the automated transducer pass over the breast, most patients describe it as painless.
Most Sonocine exams take 20-30 minutes from start to finish.
