The Basics

What is a pelvic ultrasound?

A pelvic ultrasound images the uterus, ovaries and bladder with sound waves. It can be performed two ways: transabdominal, with the probe over the lower abdomen and a full bladder acting as a window, or transvaginal, using a slim internal probe that sits much closer to the organs for finer detail.

Your physician's order determines which approach is used, and often both are done together. Our Glendale team explains everything before we begin, keeps the room private, and you can ask us to pause at any moment, consent and comfort come first.
