The Basics

What is screening mammography?

A screening mammogram is routine imaging for women with no symptoms. A diagnostic mammogram is different, it is used when there is a symptom such as a lump, or to look more closely at something seen on a screening study. Screening is the one you book each year without waiting for a reason.

Screening works because it finds change early: small calcifications, subtle differences from last year, tumors long before they can be felt. It is worth saying plainly that the great majority of screening results are completely normal, and that is the outcome we expect for most women in Glendale who come through our doors.

What We Look For

Who should be screened.
