What a general X-ray covers
A general X-ray is routine diagnostic imaging of bones, the chest, the spine or the abdomen, using a very small amount of radiation to produce a picture in seconds.
This page focuses on the practical side, which body parts we image, what each study shows and how to prepare. For the wider overview of X-ray at our Glendale center, see the X-Ray hub page.
Body parts we image.
Every scan is read by board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologists, with the report sent to your physician within 24-48 hours.
How to prepare.
Most X-rays
No preparation at all, eat and drink normally. Just remove jewelry and metal from the area being imaged.
Chest and spine X-rays
You may be asked to change into a gown and hold your breath briefly for each image so the picture stays sharp.
If you may be pregnant
Tell the technologist before your exam so we can take appropriate precautions or discuss alternatives with your physician.
Why choose Lucent for your X-ray.
Digital, low-dose protocols
Digital detectors keep exposure low, and image quality is checked immediately so you are not called back for a repeat.
Experienced technologists
Careful positioning the first time means fewer repeat images and a shorter visit for you.
Same-day radiologist reads
Board-certified radiologists interpret your images and send the report to your doctor, often the same day.
Calm, comfortable, clear.
Check In
Bring your physician's order if you have one, and remove jewelry or metal near the area being imaged.
Positioning
The technologist positions the body part carefully and steps behind a shield before each exposure.
Imaging
A few seconds per image, hold still and breathe as instructed. Usually 2-3 views in total.
